Esports Glossary for Mobile Gamers

New to esports tournaments? These are the terms you will meet most often in Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty: Mobile and Ludo events, explained in plain language.

Battle royale
A match where many players or teams fight on one shrinking map until one is left.
Custom room
A private match created by the organiser. Players join with a room ID and password, so only registered players enter.
Room ID and password
The codes shared shortly before a match. Never share them with people outside your team. See room ID and password explained.
Squad, duo and solo
Team sizes of four, two and one player. See solo, duo and squad.
Knockout format
Losers are eliminated each round until a winner remains.
Points-based format
Teams earn points for placement and eliminations across several matches, and the highest total wins. See knockout vs points.
Bracket
The chart showing who plays whom in a knockout event. See Free Fire brackets.
Qualifier
An early round that reduces a large field to the teams that reach the main stage.
Elimination (kill)
Knocking out an opponent. Many events award points for each one.
Placement points
Points awarded for how long your team survives, regardless of eliminations.
Ping
The delay between your phone and the game server, measured in milliseconds. Lower is better. See ping tips.
Sensitivity
Aim and camera speed settings that change how your controls feel. See Free Fire sensitivity settings.
Disqualification
Removal from an event for breaking the rules, such as cheating or false information. See reasons for disqualification.
Fair play
Honest results, respect for rules and opponents. See what fair play means.
Dispute
A formal disagreement about a result, handled with evidence. See how to handle disputes.
Screen recording evidence
A recording of a match used to confirm a result. See screen recording evidence.
Scrim
A practice match between teams that does not count towards a tournament.
Esports
